Chew (The graphic Novel)

I have stumbled upon Chew and I think it’s such a tasty delight, lol. For those of you that haven’t had the awesome experience of reading it yet, I don’t want to spoil it too much.

It’s about Tony Chu who is a detective who also has a superpower. He is a “cibopath”, which means he can eat flesh and see an entire story of how the animal was killed. The more flesh he ingests, the more story is revealed. He meets other cibopaths. He ends up working for FDA, in a world that they have banned people from eating chicken because there is rampant bird flu. Chicken is pretty much smuggled and the division he works for is trying to stop the illegal chicken ingestion.

Tony ends up eating human flesh to solve crimes. Yes, that is what happens in Chew. Now i’m sure you understand why this GN has been named so.

I had a weird thought that if cibopaths eat a certain part of the body, can they learn more about a person. For example, if the stomach was eaten could it tell what the person liked to eat? Or let’s lead this into the discussion of love (since it is February)… if a heart was eaten, could the person be more understood? Or could society understand people better if the brain was eaten (obviously in different hemispheres, neural areas and such). Imagine the ways people could understand human growth, behavior and all sorts of ongoing philosophic/psychologic/biologic questions that have plagued the human race!

There is A LOT more that goes on, like I said I don’t want to ruin it for you. But for those of you who have read it, feel free to leave comments! I’d love to discuss your thoughts.
